The second thing that it accomplishes well is enticing visitors to sign up for their service by featuring a large (but very simple) sign-up box directly next to the bright illustrations.

Additionally, Brightkite establishes its credibility by displaying multiple sets of testimonials in one box, as well as using geo-targeting to show that there are other users near visitors who are using Brightkite.

All of the important elements of the site are allowed to stand out thanks to the subtle background and simple color scheme.
